Program Leadership Excellence

For program directors accountable for multiple interdependent workstreams, not a single project team.

4 days (cohort-based), delivered over two consecutive weeks Live virtual cohort; private cohorts available for enterprise PMO teams

Overview

Running a program is a different discipline from running a project, and most program directors are promoted into the role having only ever practiced the latter. Program Leadership Excellence works through the specific craft of leading across workstreams: managing the seams where individual workstreams report green while the program itself drifts, resequencing work when a dependency slips, and holding a steering committee accountable for decisions instead of status theater.

Who Should Attend

  • Program directors and senior program managers leading multiple interdependent workstreams.
  • Project managers being promoted into program-level scope for the first time.
  • PMO leaders supporting program directors who need a shared leadership vocabulary.
  • Delivery leaders inheriting a program already in flight.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify where a program is actually failing at the seams between workstreams, not within any single one.
  • Build and defend a single program-level view of risk that supersedes individual workstream reporting.
  • Resequence workstreams under a slipped dependency without triggering a full replan.
  • Run a steering committee that makes program-level trade-off decisions instead of reviewing status.

Curriculum

Module 1: Leading at the Seams

Diagnosing program-level risk that individual workstream status reports systematically hide.

Module 2: The Integrated View

Building a program-level schedule, budget, and RAID log that overrides optimistic workstream-level reporting.

Module 3: Resequencing Under Pressure

Making defensible resequencing calls when a dependency slips, without triggering panic or a full replan.

Module 4: Steering Committees That Decide

Running governance forums that force program-level trade-off decisions instead of reviewing status.

Certification

Participants receive a KnownShift Program Leadership Excellence certificate of completion.
